How does Toyota’s factory-to-dealer incentive program work?

by Reed on January 2, 2010

I was once told that Toyota sets quotas for its dealers for programs that do NOT necessarily fall onto monthly boundaries (i.e., ending on the last day of the month). For example, they may run a program from June 17th- July 16th whereby a dealer is given a quota of, say, 150 units. If they reach their quota sales, they are rewarded with a rebate of, say, $1,500 per unit. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed true?

If so, does Toyota employ the same program for Lexus?

You have the right idea, but the per unit number wasn’t usually that much. Also, many of the rebates come from the distributor, not Toyota directly. For instance, I live in Florida and the incentives were driven almost exclusively by a company called "Southeast Toyota" which imported the cars into this part of the country. In my experience, the programs weren’t for over a weekend, but for a big chunk of the month. Like, the "fast start" quotas were for the 1st throught 10th of the month. Or, it might only apply to certain vehicle classes, like trucks. Hope this helps!

Want out of car lease to buy a new car – what is most efficient exit strategy?

by Reed on January 2, 2010

I am leasing a 2006 Lexus ES330 with two years left and need to buy a mnivan due to a larger family. What is the most efficient way to exit the lease? Buyout the car and trade it in for a new car (would pay 7.375% sales tax on the buyout amount)? Assign the lease to a third-party and then buy the new car (subject to finding an equally credit-worth counterparty)? Keep sales tax implications in mind when providing advice.

There’s rarely a good way to exit a lease when you still have two years to go. You very likely still owe much more than the car is worth, so even if you return it, you’ll still owe additional money.

You could consider finding a third party to take over your lease, but it has to be done with the approval of your lease company. Some lease companies don’t allow it, and those who do often insist on keeping you responsible if the other party defaults. Companies such as Swapalease and LeaseTrader help find the third party, for a fee of course. This is the least expensive and easiest way, if it’s OK with your lease company.

Lexus GS 400 brakes and master cylinder replaced and now abs light on and alarm going off?

by Reed on January 2, 2010

Im interested in a vehicle for sale. The guy told me that he changed the brakes and the master cylinder. Then as soon as he did that the ABS light went on and so did an alarm. The alarm hasnt gone off for a llittle while but he expects it will go on again. The seller said that it needs some sort of wiring done that is attached to the master cylinder. that would cost around 1,000 Dollars. He believes that Lexus made it so that would happen if you dont take it do a dealership.
Anyone that is familiar with this please let me know what is actually going on as even the seller is confused as to why it did this.

i work at a lexus dealership in service and i assure you that they have not designed anything to malfunction in the case you do it yourself. some model lexus have brake pad indicators which could have been damaged replacing the brakes. but more than likely its related to the master cylinder. i highly suggests taking the car to a dealership to get it looked at. it could be that the brakes werent bled properly but its better to have it looked at then not

What is the best Vehicle for a Real Estate Agent?

by Reed on January 2, 2010

I’m not a flashy person, but after 15 years in Sales, I’m noticing that people do judge you from your Image. It’s time to put my domestic to rest, but I’m having a hard time picking a good vehicle with price and reliability. I’m looking for any suggestions. I like the Lexus but at $55,000 minumum, it doesn’t make much sense for tax deduction up here in Canada. Some help Pleassse.
Thanks everyone so far, I think I’m going to check out a used X5. Just wondering about reliability. German cars are notorious for high maintenance costs, they sure aren’t what they used to be. That’s why I started to look into Japanese cars, but some of them just don’t have the look i’m going for. Does anyone know anything about the BMW X5’s?

For a real estate agent, domestic cars are no good because of their quality. In my opinion if you care about your image then you gotta have a european car or suv. The new BMW X5 is your best bet.
