i need an idea compared to other cars of similar class. How much maintenance does it need? Are there any regular problems? Are spares expensive?
well um depends on where ya live, where you take it..what kind of maintance you want done…there are alot of things to be maintained on a car…not all of them done at the same intervals…

ENGINE OIL MAINTENANCE REMINDER LIGHT
The system must be reset after the engine oil replacement. Reset the system by the following procedure:
Push the ODO/TRIP switch in the switch box to change the display to blank.
Turn the engine switch off.
Turn the engine switch on with the trip meter RESET switch held down.
Keep pushing the RESET switch for longer than 7 seconds after the engine switch is turned on. After the above operation, the master warning light comes on, a warning tone sounds and the OIL MAINT RESET appears to inform you that engine oil maintenance has been reset.

where is no 2 knock sensor on 2000 lexus rx 300?
there may be two of them, one on each side of the lower part of the block,good luck.

2001 Lexus RX 300 HEPLLLLL!!!!Smoke out of tail pipe !!?
It smokes and makes a noise from the engine sometimes when you first turn it on. I had the motor oil it changed 700 miles ago but when I checked it, it was very low.Please HELP!!!!

The noise comes for about 5 sec. then goes away. It is like a screaching noise.
the smoke is from the valve seals leaking, but you will have to be more specific on the noise, it may be a lifter.
