Lexus: $15K, 100K miles 99′-02′
Jeep: $15K, 30K miles 03′-04′
Ok, so the Jeep clearly looks like a better bet. However, I feel like…not neccessarily if the Lexus (toyota) can last 200K-250K miles, and the Jeep only lasts a little over 100K miles.
The lexus is my dream car, and I need to know if it would be worth it to get it over the Jeep. Thanks guys!
I’m really not sure on how long Jeeps can really last…
Lexus why would you pay the same money for a car thats not your dream car. I had a Toyota(makes Lexus) and I drove it 264,xxx miles before I sold it. The life of the car I had to change the starter once and regular oil changes thats it.

My 01 Rx300 has a problem.. When the car turns on (8/10 times) the engine has somewhere a problem.. When you turn the key you hear the starter turn and a sec. later the car turns on, but the Tach needle only moves to 500-750RPM, and it feels like its going to stall out. Then I rev it to 2500RPM’s and when it idles it goes to the normal 1000RPM idle. On other occasions the car has a very hard time to start. You turn the key and you hear the starter trying to turn the engine over, but when it finally does, the car just dies… Sometimes it takes about 8 tries to finally get it to turn over.. Whats wrong with it?
Oh I replaced the battery 2 months ago, and it was not the issue
It could be you need a new battery…Clean the battery terminals..you can also take the battery into a local auto parts store and have the battery tested its free in every auto store i have been to. My wifes minivan just had the same problem turns out she had some corosion on the battery terminals and it was causing the battery to die and not properly recharge.

I want to know if it goves driving directions…It tellme the weather and MPG and etc… If anyone has info firsthand its greatly appreciated!
Lexus RX’s with navigation systems require the driver to "Agree" (by pressing an "Agree" button on the touch screen) to a big long liability statement prior to being able to use the navi system, every time the car is started. If your car either doesn’t have a clearly labeled navigation button to get to the navigation screen and/or does not flash that "Agree" to the liabilty waiver then you don’t have a navigation system equipped car.

I know it will get a timing belt, tensioner and water pump. Should the crank and camshft seals be replaced? Is there anything else that should be replaced as a preventative measure? My Lexus has 106,000 miles on it. I know the belt should have been replaced at 90,000 miles but I did not find that out until it had 105,000 miles on it.
It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace the crank seal while you have it out and apart. Seals & gaskets should be replaced if you see any type of seapage because the oil could ruin the new belt.

I just bought a 99 Lexus RX 300 (private sale) and I am now very concerned if I have made a good decision. The car has 100,000 mi on it but it runs great and is in near perfect condition. It was inspected and given a clean bill of health and has a clean carfax. Since I bought it however I have been reading about a chronic transmission failure in these vehicle to the tune of 5k and engine sludge problems as well ( another 5k if the engine goes). I dont have any indications of these problems with this car but I am seriously reconsidering my decision to buy. If I were to get hit with a big bill for service I dont think I could pay it so am I better off preemtivley selling the car on the chance that it will have the same problems so many others have had. Additionally is it unethical to attempt to sell the car without disclosing the potential problems even thought this one does not currently, but in all liklleyhood will will develope at least one of these problems in the next few years.
You don’t KNOW whether it will develop these problems, and you don’t need to expose your fears. The next person takes the same chance (but NOT certainty) you took.
Anyone buying a used car better be aware that they may be buying someone elses problems, and if they are not, it isn’t your obligation to point that out to them.
