The Benefits of Full Lexus Servicing

by Reed on March 30, 2010

Dominic Donaldson asked:

Owning a Lexus is like being part of a club. That at least is the opinion of the manufacturer. It may be marketing speak, but it is true. The luxury division of Toyota does attract a very loyal brand of consumer who is rightly proud of the vehicles. When it comes to repair, though, everyone faces a dilemma. Do they pay high prices for genuine Lexus servicing, or do they get a local mechanic to do the work?

Most owners have been taught the benefits of a full history. By maintaining full Lexus servicing throughout the lifespan of the car, they can obtain a reasonably high resale price when the time comes to move on. However the costs can seem extremely high. It may well be tempting to go with a local garage to source parts cheaper.

This can be effective especially if you know a good mechanic in your area who can provide genuine parts at a decent price. However there is always a risk. By sticking with the manufacturer you guarantee a level of expertise and service. We’ve all experienced the pain of sub standard repairs. Like it or not, maintenance costs can quickly head towards the sky. If you’re looking for the definition of false economy, then this is it.

Even if your mechanic does have an excellent reputation locally, that may not matter when you sell it on. The new owner will be looking for signs of quality he or see can understand and signs of official Lexus servicing will certainly offer that.

Equally, many owners can feel they’re paying through the nose just to get an official stamp which will not, at the end of the day, make as much difference as they hope. When a car’s value dips below a certain point having an official full service history will probably not make much difference.

It is a difficult decision and many owners choose to mix and match – having a basic Lexus servicing in order to get the official stamp and getting any extra work completed by their local specialist. It is a compromise and it does not always work as well as you hoped, but those people who like to have their cake and eat it will certainly be tempted to give it a go. The one thing you need is local knowledge. If the specialist is not up to scratch then your best laid plans will quickly come undone.

How bad is a Lexus IS300’s Maintenance ?

by Reed on January 22, 2010

I’m looking at a 2002-2005 Lexus IS300 but I know very little about maintenance costs with this car. I know it’s a Lexus, but I figure since most of the important parts are Toyota maybes it’s not too bad, and I’d be doing all the work.
Answer #1: No, just most, which is why I asked the question as it’s a toyota engine and drive train.

Answer #2: Stupid

General maintenance is very expensive for any luxury car.

Whats the average cost of owning a Lexus 99 as far as maintenance goes?

by Reed on January 22, 2010

Planning on purchasing a used 1999 Lexus ES300, However Im afraid the maintenance cost for Foreign vehicles is much higher and pricier. Can anyone help me?

the es 300 is like a toyota camry. look under the hood it’s all toyota parts. there is no really no big difference. just replaced my timing belt and water pump total for parts and labor 430 dollars at toyota. just make sure it was serviced and taken care of you will be okay in repairs. i bought my 1997 es 300 in 1998 with 15,000 miles. i still own it with 182,000 and i have had no major issues. same engine and tranny. i had to replace egr valve and oxygen sensors which was not costly. in 11 years under 2,000 dollars in expenses for repairs.

Lexus Prius? New Lexus HS 250h Hybrid First Drive

by Reed on January 14, 2010

MORE LEXUS HS 250h @ INSIDELINE.COM:

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/FirstDrives/articleId=148786?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..2.*

We’re sensing an eerie state of calm from the Lexus officials at the introduction of the 2010 Lexus HS 250h in Newport Beach, California. It’s the kind of calm you experience at a poker table, when you’re waiting for the other guy to finally lay down his cards.

Then it happens. An executive cheerily admits that he hasn’t a clue about how well this newest member of the Lexus family will be received by the marketplace. Fuel prices are too volatile, he says.

In this line of work, a response like this would normally be intercepted by the brain in its formative state and its utterance prevented. So either the Lexus brass is speaking the truth or they’re simply being coy.

We would find out later that it’s some combination of the two.
